Coming out of Hibernation…

With the mid-terms just a couple months away it seems the time to make a few comments. It has been fourteen months since our last blog post here, although our front page “Rolling Blog” has posted some thoughts since the last election. This will be posted there also.

But here is a piece from David Sirota who has become for me a trusted source on information pertaining to the building of a new Democratic Party. The magnitude of the change that is needed in the Democratic Party has become real and the fact that the Progressive Caucus Wing of the Democratic Party has been way to timid in getting things changed has forced Democratic candidates to hook into the Democratic Socialists of America wing of the party whose aims are listed under the program  Workers Deserve More democraticleft.dsausa.org.

This program is the latest policy and vision statement from the Democratic Socialists of America, a long?standing activist wing of the U.S. Democratic Party. It outlines a political goal of building a “classless society” where resources are distributed more equitably, poverty and war are eliminated, and everyone is free, equal, and cared for democraticleft.dsausa.org.

While this kind of group may be needed as part of a restructuring of the Democratic Party, to make a clear dividing line between the inequality spawned by the Reagan Economic policies that have dominated American Politics for the past 45 years, it is clearly an over reach that will not be supported by main stream America. So, I view it as a stepping stone to a realistic Democratic Party, maybe a bit like the Tea Party Republican transition. Getting the Democratic Party updated will not be easy as it operates around Democracy not Authoritarianism, the Republican method that is top down and quick in adoption.

Unfortunately, the depth of the Reagan idea was not turned upside down by the great Presidency of Barack Obama. He accomplished a lot with Obamacare, and lessening the danger of a Mideast war with his Iranian Nuclear Agreement and other human rights accomplishments. On the other hand he was willing to buy into the kind of economic arrangements that kept the Reagan Economic “Move Money to the Top” programs going. His Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner along with Fed Chair Bernanke started the “funny money QE’s” that instead of cleaning out the excesses of asset speculation that the 2008 Great Recession Exposed, papered it over with adding fuel to the fire, the fire that is now out of control under the Trump Presidency with rising government deficits and a climbing government debt. A huge change in approach will be needed and it will not happen under old school Schumer and Jefferie’s Leadership.

The Boomers have to go, and new thinking needs to evolve, leaders like Buttigieg and Ossoff will emerge and lean to Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren historical guide posts.

Moving forward here is what Sirota is saying about the Party War that is evolving:

It’s important to know that people like @RahmEmanuel and @neeratanden & the entire Corporate Dem faction they represent will never feel shame for spearheading the corporate politics that immiserated the working class & created the backlash conditions that destroyed the Democratic Party & led to Trump’s ascent. NAFTA, deregulation, austerity, donor fealty, oligarchy, elite impunity and historic Dem electoral losses are their legacy — and they rely on nobody in media or politics ever holding them accountable for the consequences of their politics. Their shamelessness isn’t incidental. Shamelessness is their *brand* — it’s depicted by elite media as a form of laudable “toughness.” Displaying absolutely no shame about all the wreckage and human suffering their politics helped create is their proud unique selling proposition. They will never feel bad about what they did. They will never apologize. So stop asking them to. Instead, just focus on doing the work to make sure they do not ever again get to wield any power.
